peace

This post is really a note/reminder to me, but you are welcome to read it too 🙂

I have been very stressed out lately. Not because my life sucks or things aren’t working out the way I want them to. Actually, my reason is quite the opposite. I have great things happening in life. A lot of them. So many of them that I don’t get any time to stop, and take it all in.

Over time I have learned to cope with stress caused by the modern fast-life. The one thing that always works for me is to take a few minutes every day to reflect on life. The good. The bad. The pretty. The ugly. Everything!

Here are some things that work for me.

  • Breathe
  • Gratitude
  • Stay still and quite for sometime
  • Pet a dog
  • Spend time in nature/Go for a long walk by yourself
  • Blow bubbles
  • Write/Journal
  • Stretch
  • Drink a cup of good, strong coffee and feel the tingle in the toes
  • Hugs
  • Read
  • Lie in the sun
  • Bubble baths
  • Avoid negative people
  • Say a prayer (for someone else)

30 Days of Giving Thanks – Day 4 – Music

Today… I am grateful for MUSIC. Music touches hearts, it expresses emotions on a totally different level than just words alone, it can lift your spirits or inspire you. It brings people together and is a great way to bond with others. There is something for everyone. I can’t imagine a life without music!

15 Instant Mood Lifters

  • Energize: Stand up. Stretch. Walk around. Or just step out side the building and get a breath of fresh air.
  • Make someone smile: Give someone a compliment. Get someone a cup of coffee. Help someone unload their car. Surprise someone with something they like.
  • Listen to your favorite song: Listening to music you like increases your energy level and produce happy hormones in your body. No, I didn’t make that up, researchers have proved this.
  • Play/cuddle/spend time with Fido: Pets are a lot more than cute cuddly animals. They are a great emotional support to us. Spending time with pets de-stresses and appeases the mind. It’s an instant mood lifter!
  • Calm down: Close your eyes and breathe deeply ten times. Imagine that with every exhale, your stress is melting away.
  • Watch a funny video on YouTube: A cute puppy or a laughing baby can make anyone smile. No exceptions.
  • De-clutter your desk:  Clean space tranquilizes the mind and helps increase focus and productivity. Give it a shot.
  • Water a plant: While watering the plant, know that you are giving someone life. Pay attention to the beauty of the leaves and the flowers. Look at the colors. Smell the freshness.
  • Take a quick trip to your happy place: Close your eyes and imagine being at your happy place. Notice the little details of this place. Feel it. See yourself in it.
  • Look at a picture of a loved one and remember the good times when that picture was taken.
  • Have some ice cream – any flavor you like.
  • Smell your favorite fragrance – perfume, candle, soap, person, anything.
  • Drink a glass of water: Taste the crispness of fresh water.
  • Read a motivating article on WWW. Anything that resonates with you.
  • Smile. Even if there’s no reason to. Even if no one’s there. Even if it’s fake. Just smile.

Broken

I usually like two genres of music – 1. Peppy 2. Peaceful and try to stay away from the sad teary songs. But every once in a while I come across a song, that’s sad, but is still so beautiful that I can’t help but listen to it over and over again. An example of such a song is Broken by Lifehouse and I am posting it here for you. If you haven’t paid attention to the lyrics, you’re missing out; so simple but so powerful… Enjoy!

The broken clock is a comfort, it helps me sleep tonight
Maybe it can stop tomorrow from stealing all my time
I am here still waiting though i still have my doubts
I am damaged at best, like you’ve already figured out

I’m falling apart, I’m barely breathing
With a broken heart that’s still beating
In the pain, there is healing
In your name I find meaning
So I’m holdin’ on, I’m holdin’ on, I’m holdin’ on
I’m barely holdin’ on to you

The broken locks were a warning you got inside my head
I tried my best to be guarded, I’m an open book instead
I still see your reflection inside of my eyes
That are looking for a purpose, they’re still looking for life

I’m falling apart, I’m barely breathing
with a broken heart that’s still beating
In the pain (in the pain), is there healing
In your name (in your name) I find meaning
So I’m holdin’ on (I’m still holdin’), I’m holdin’ on (I’m still holdin’), I’m holdin’ on (I’m still holdin’)
I’m barely holdin’ on to you

I’m hangin’ on another day
Just to see what you throw my way
And I’m hanging on to the words you say
You said that I will be OK

The broken lights on the freeway left me here alone
I may have lost my way now, haven’t forgotten my way home

I’m falling apart, I’m barely breathing
with a broken heart that’s still beating
In the pain(In the pain) there is healing
In your name I find meaning
So I’m holdin’ on (I’m still holdin’), I’m holdin’ on (I’m still holdin’), I’m holdin’ on (I’m still holdin’),
I’m barely holdin’ on to you

I’m holdin’ on (I’m still holdin’), I’m holdin’ on (I’m still holdin’), I’m holdin’ on (I’m still holdin’),
I’m barely holdin’ on to you

Dancing in the moon light

I met you in my dream last night,

You smiled at me, and held my hand,

pulled me close,

so close that I buried my face in your chest,

closed my eyes

and all my worries just melted away,

I felt divine love in the moment,

And then,

we danced all night in bright silver moonlight…
